Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is for people who aren't getting what they want from life. It uses positive suggestions, guided visualisations, goal setting and metaphors to effect change. Hypnotherapy is safe, reliable and fast. Hypnotherapy combines standard cognitive techniques with hypnosis. Using hypnosis enables the therapy to be faster and more reliable. Using hypnosis also makes it possible to choose from a wide variety of therapies. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis in order to by-pass the conscious mind and prevent it from interfering with the process of change. Only by addressing the unconscious mind can you release old fears, eliminate stubborn habits, unblock emotions and remove limiting beliefs.
Hypnosis is a well known and successful treatment for stopping smoking and other habits. Hypnotherapy is also effective in dealing with unwanted behaviours and long term emotional issues, particularly where the behaviour seems to be automatic or outside the person's control. Typical issues are:
Hypnotherapy uses only words - but using the right words can change your life. Hypnotherapy depends on a natural ability we all have. We all have a built in process for learning - we have used it since we first opened our eyes. However, in the course of growing up that learning process absorbed anything and everything, and some of us acquired unhelpful ideas and beliefs that today dictate what we think about ourselves and the world we live in. Hypnotherapy uses that same natural learning process but in a planned and scientific way. It de-installs that outdated and unhelpful learning and replaces it with positive thoughts.
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis because it is the best way to make the changes you want. If you have ever driven home and can't remember anything about the journey, or if you have been so absorbed in a book or a film that you lost track of time, then you have been in hypnosis. All that hypnotherapy does is to call up this natural state when required instead of waiting for it happen at random.
For each client I develop a personal therapy plan, and together we agree on how best to achieve the outcome you want. The plan usually includes hypnosis, but it may also use non-hypnotic techniques.
Hypnosis techniques include carefully targeted direct suggestions, guided imagery, parts therapy, and regression.
Non-hypnosis techniques include standard cognitive behavioural therapies such as EFT, NLP modalities, Core Transformation, and Metaphor Modelling.
Some problems such as smoking or weight loss have a standard solution and I know how long they will take. Most problems only need one session. For example, Stopping Smoking usually takes only one session, Weight Loss may take two or three. Most phobias can be cleared in one session, public speaking for example. Other problems take longer. Most people see a dramatic improvement after one session. If there is no significant improvement after three sessions then this type of therapy should be reconsidered.
Each session is booked for one and a half hours, usually taking just over an hour. If you need more than one session, the usual pattern is to have one session per week, but some clients prefer longer between sessions, sometimes several weeks. Each session is a distinct therapeutic unit and will have its own benefits independent of any other sessions, but the effect is greater and longer lasting with repeated sessions. I usually record each session.
If you have doubts about any aspect of hypnotherapy, please talk to your doctor. Most doctors understand the adjunct role hypnotherapy can play as part of a managed care plan. You are very welcome to bring a friend along with you if you want to. Feel free to phone me or email me to discuss what's on your mind. I look forward to hearing from you.
