UNDERSTANDING HYPNOSIS

Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy combines standard cognitive behavioural techniques with hypnosis. Using hypnosis makes changes faster and more reliable. Using hypnosis also makes it possible to choose from a wide variety of therapies. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis in order to by-pass the conscious mind and prevent it from interfering with the process of healing. Only by addressing the unconscious mind can you release old fears, unblock emotions and remove limiting beliefs.

What is being hypnotised like?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind in which your mind is so focused on one thing that it excludes everything else. When that happens your unconscious mind takes over and you enter a special state. If you have ever driven home and couldn't remember anything about the journey, or if you have been so absorbed in a book or a film that you lost track of time, then you have been hypnotised.

All that hypnosis does is to call up this natural state when required instead of waiting for it to happen.

YOUR FIRST SESSION

TYPICAL CASES

What happens in the session?

Your first visit usually lasts about an hour and a half. I'll explain hypnosis, what it can and can't do. We'll discuss various aspects of your problem, and we'll develop a treatment plan. I will show you how to test your hypnotic abilities and I will take you into trance briefly to let you experience it firsthand. That way you get to try the amazing power of hypnosis. Usually I will then guide you back into trance and complete the therapy with you.

Case Examples

Each client is different but many of the same problems are presented again and again.

The case study page describes some common problems that hypnotherapy can eliminate and how they are normally dealt with. Each of the case studies are based on successful cases I have have treated. In the Testimonial page clients describe their results from hypnosis.

How does hypnosis work?

Understanding how hypnosis works will allow you to get the best from it and achieve what you want. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis in a carefully planned way. Hypnotists have come to understand how the mind's logic works, and have developed standard techniques that all hypnotherapists use.

The pages in this section go into hypnosis in more depth.

What techniques are used?

This section describes the standard procedure of a hypnosis session. The techniques I use with any particular client will depend on the nature of the problem and what the client feels most comfortable with.

Knowing how your mind reacts to hypnotic words and suggestions will allow you to make better use of them.
